An event with the Accord Singers is always a treat, with a few surprises and a dash of humour. We perform a wide range of unaccompanied music, sometimes in rather unusual places. We’ll sing in art galleries, ruined abbeys, church halls, Victorian shopping arcades …… To add variety we often include readings and guest instrumental performers.
The Accord Singers is a small chamber choir, with a target size of around 25 members. We are a friendly and relaxed group, but serious about our singing and our standards. We sing unaccompanied music, a capella, from a wide range of styles and from five centuries. Have a look at Repertoire to see a list of some of the music we sing.
We meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at St Andrew’s Church Stainland, Halifax HX4 9EZ. Each term our normal pattern of work includes some music that is new to the choir along with revision of pieces from our repertoire. We work without an accompanist and aim to do a minimum of note learning during rehearsals so that we can concentrate on the quality and character of our singing. Members therefore may need to spend some time learning parts between rehearsals.
We have vacancies for tenors and basses and a waiting list for sopranos and altos.

We welcome new members who enjoy singing unaccompanied music and can follow a musical score, with the proviso that your voice must blend with the choir as a whole, and you can sing reliably in tune and at pitch. Like many choirs we appreciate good sight readers, but we realise that keen singers may not necessarily have this skill. Some sight reading ability is obviously an advantage, along with clear commitment to regular attendance.
